Beta-Pinene

beta-Pinene

Beta-Pinene is an organic compound with a woody-green pine smell.  It is naturally occurring in many plants, from cannabis to cumin, and is one of the most abundant compounds released by forest trees.  It is one of the primary constituents of balsam fir essential oil, which has been found to have many health benefits.
In 2006, an analysis of balsam fir indicated efficacy against the Staph. bacteria.  Before that, a group of fir oils were found to be highly active against Listeria. 1
A study from 2015 revealed some oils from the North American boreal forest to be potential antimicrobial and antioxidant agents. 1
